Employee Spotlight

Posted January 8, 2025

At Raymond, we have outstanding employees, so we decided to feature some of them on our blog. Our next Employee Spotlight features Gerardo Holguin, Taper Foreman for Raymond’s Southern California region. Gerardo has dedicated his entire 22-year construction career to Raymond. He recently completed work on our 8th & Figueroa project and is now contributing his expertise to Wisteria Warner Center, a 486-unit senior living project in Woodland Hills.

We sat down with Gerardo to learn more about him and his time at Raymond.

What does a typical day look like for you? I start each day by thanking God for the blessing of another opportunity to live and work.

What brought you into the construction industry? My uncles, Roque Quiroz and Miguel Quiroz, inspired me to enter the construction field.

What do you like most about working in construction? The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the finished work, especially when a freshly painted wall transforms a space.

Three words to describe Raymond. The best company.

What has been your favorite project with Raymond and why? Landmark Tower II in Santa Monica—a 34-floor apartment complex with skimming concrete ceilings—stands out as my favorite. The scale and intricacy made it a memorable and rewarding experience.

  • Landmark Tower II is a new 34-story, 415,000-square-foot apartment building, comprised of 376 apartment units, fitness and recreation areas, a swimming pool and pool deck, and 4-levels of underground parking. Landmark Tower II is now the tallest building in West Los Angeles.

What project are you currently working on? Have there been challenges and, if so, how have they been overcome? I am currently working on the Wisteria at Warner Center senior living complex, which is my third project with the same team (we just finished Landmark Tower and 8th & Figueroa). Over the course of these projects, we’ve been able to build stronger collaboration and continuously improve our processes. It’s a challenging yet growth-driven experience that keeps pushing us forward.

  • Wisteria Warner Center Project Rendering | Raymond has been contracted by W.E. O'Neil to perform interior and exterior framing, exterior sheathing, and interior drywall and taping.

What is your proudest moment at Raymond? My proudest moments come from representing Raymond as the final touchpoint on projects, ensuring satisfaction for owners, architects, and general contractors.

What is the most challenging part of your job? Also being the last person on-site, responsible for meeting high standards and satisfying all parties – this is both challenging and fulfilling.

How would you describe your career progression at Raymond? It’s been a rewarding journey of growth and learning.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you? Always dream for what you desire.

What advice do you have for prospective Raymond candidates? Push yourself to stand out and be recognizable. This advice came from one of my superintendents.

What do you like doing when you’re not at work? I love attending soccer games with my family and spending weekends supporting my daughter in softball and my son in soccer.

What inspires you? My family. I am blessed with my kids and my wife, who push me to fight for my dreams.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? My family.

How do you balance your career and your family? As a foreman, balancing my career and family life requires intentional effort and prioritization. I make it a point to dedicate my weekends to my family, especially supporting my kids in their sports activities—my daughter plays softball, and my son plays soccer. My wife is my rock, always encouraging me to pursue my dreams, which keeps me grounded and focused. I also believe in using my time wisely during the week so I can fully enjoy moments with my family when I’m off the clock.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us? I feel blessed to have a career that allows me to grow, provide for my family, and be part of something impactful.
