The Raymond Group’s Las Vegas region participated in National Rebuilding Day on Saturday, April 30th, partnering with Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada (RTSNV) to help local homeowners in need. Raymond was among several volunteer teams providing renovations to a home in Las Vegas.
Raymond sponsored Norte Vista High School in the Construction Industry Education Foundation (CIEF) Design Build Competition. This year’s competition showcased 17 Southern California teams challenged with constructing a 96 square-foot structure over a two-day period.
Raymond’s San Diego region participated in the San Diego Building Industry’s annual Baja Challenge by helping to build a home for a family in need just south of the San Diego border. Raymond was invited to the team challenge by the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. Raymond and Whiting-Turner brought 30+ employee volunteers, along with their family and friends. Ten homes in total were built by participating companies.
Raymond’s San Diego region participated in ACE Mentor’s ‘Trades Day’ at our SeaWorld New Ride project alongside Clark Construction. Local high school students took part in the hands-on day, designed to introduce participants to a construction project and the different construction trades. Students were able to learn directly from Raymond craftspeople, as well as other contractors, during interactive trade demonstrations.
FEATURED PROJECTS
Raymond was contracted by MJ Dean on the UNLV Medical Education Building (MEB) to perform interior development and exterior rain screen walls. Highlights of the interior include a unique amphitheater and a curved showcase stairwell. Construction of the exterior included an overall mix of mediums making for a very appealing façade.
The project’s rainscreen system consisted of 2,500 unique, prefabricated, Terracotta panels stacked in sequence per a specific architectural layout. Each row of Terracotta panels was approximately 42” in length and differed in stack heights of one to two inches, creating a rain screen façade that blends with the desert landscape while creating a functional exterior facade that will last in the desert climate. The new Kathleen MacDonald High School is a 1,600-student school and part of a 55-acre Santa Clara Unified School District development that also includes a 600-student elementary school and a 1,000-student middle school. The three state-of-the-art schools feature collaborative learning areas that support the educational and social needs of students at every age.
Preconstruction for Kathleen MacDonald started in September of 2020 and construction began January, 2021. Raymond was contracted by Swinerton Builders to perform interior and exterior work, including: Cold Formed Metal Framing, Fire and Smoke Assembly Identification, Thermal Insulation, Weather Barrier, Applied Fire Protection, Joint Firestopping, Access Doors and Panels, Gypsum Board Assemblies, and Non-Structural Metal Framing. 8th & Figueroa, located in Los Angeles’ Downtown Financial District, is a 42 story, 438-unit, luxury residential tower. Raymond began work on the project for Lendlease in April of 2021 and will complete the project in Spring 2023.
Raymond’s scope of work currently includes design-assist interior and exterior framing, interior and exterior drywall and sheathing, shaftwall systems, skimmed concrete decks, lath and plaster, Venetian plaster, EIFS, spray-applied fireproofing, intumescent fireproofing, insulation, acoustical ceilings, sound isolated ceilings, fire protection specialties, lockers and mailboxes, and building information modeling.
A challenge of the project is a very large, high roof cornice that that would have required very elaborate scaffold, however, Raymond, Lendlease, and other trade partners are implementing an offsite prefabrication effort for the entire cornice perimeter. The cornice pieces will be flown and installed via crane. Raymond is also utilizing special taping and finishing techniques on the project to provide a high-quality product in critical light.
A highlight on the project is a grand ornamental stair design, with custom curved Corian, in the main lobby. Raymond is currently helping to coordinate the design and will be providing the framing supports.
FEATURED PROJECTS
The Cooley Tenant Improvement project was a buildout of two floors and 72,000 square feet. Raymond completed drywall and framing for Burger Construction, and displayed a high level of craftmanship with our in-house drywall milling machine. Raymond installed large quantities of milled shapes at intricate radius knife edge light coves, columns, perimeter soffits, alcoves, and 90-degree corners. Prefabricating drywall parts provided a path to great productivity and next level quality finishes.
